Ahmedabad is well known for its textile mills and is often referred as the 'Manchester of the East'. The Hindu kingdom of Karnavati was defeated by the Muslim Sultanate in 1411 A.D. The city then began to upgrade as a well built city. Ahmedabad was beautified by mansions, mosques and gardens of the Sultans. This city is well known for its rich history and its association with Mahatma (Great Soul), also known as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Ahmedabad offers travelers a unique style of architecture, blended in both the Hindu and Islamic styles. The monuments of Ahmedabad are of the 15th century.
